On 13 October 2025, a public debate was held with the mayoral candidates of the Municipality of Sveti Nikole, dedicated to the key priorities highlighted by citizens—traffic congestion, a clean and healthy environment (waste and wastewater management), water supply, road infrastructure, local economic development, and good governance.
The debate was attended by Dejan Gichev, candidate of the coalition led by SDSM, and Gordan Stoshevikj, candidate of a group of citizens. The candidate of the coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE did not attend but justified his absence.
The discussion showed that citizens have clear expectations and are demanding concrete solutions for a cleaner and better-organized municipality.
The attending candidates presented their positions and proposals, while citizens raised questions essential to responsible local governance and a healthy environment.
“Citizens expect accountability and delivery on promises” was the key message that concluded the debate, and the active participation of citizens demonstrated that the civic voice is a driving force for change.
The event was organized by the Women’s Civic Initiative Sveti Nikole, part of the Forum for Civil Dialog, within the framework of the project “Active Citizens and Participatory Democracy at Local Level” implemented by NGO Info-centre with the support of the Olof Palme International Center from Sweden.
