On October 25, 2025, in the Sveti Nikole village of Mustafino, a field workshop was held for the exchange of indigenous and traditional seed varieties among women from rural areas of Sveti Nikole, Debar and Gostivar. The role of women from rural areas in preserving tradition and sustainable production is great and makes a significant contribution to the development of local communities.
40 women participated in the event: 29 women from 7 women’s circles (Mustafino, Erdzelija, Amzabegovo, Peshirovo, Crnilishte, Sopot, Gorobinci) from the municipality of Sveti Nikole, 4 women from 4 women’s circles from the municipality of Lozovo, and 3 women from Radika De from Debar and 4 women from Moja Farma from Gostivar.
The women had the opportunity to visit organic pepper, tomato and alfalfa plantations. The workshop was led by farmer Suzana Dimitrievska, who introduced the attendees to the method of planting and growing crops, production and marketing, as well as the preservation of indigenous seeds. The participants shared old seed varieties and experiences from their regions.
The event was organized by the Women’s Civic Initiative GIZ Sveti Nikole, Moja Farma from Gostivar and Radika De from Debar, within the framework of the project “Alliances for Active Citizenry” of the NGO Infocenter, supported by the European Union.
