For the purposes of the Forum for Civic Dialogue, to identify the citizens priorities that the new local authorities should work on in six municipalities: Shtip, Struga, Kriva Palanka, Sveti Nikole, Krushevo and Demir Hisar, NGO Infocenter conducted anonymous online surveys.
Analysis of the results of the conducted surveys shows that the majority of citizens’ requests and suggestions relate to basic services within the jurisdiction of the municipalities – water supply, street infrastructure and municipal waste collection. Several responses also mention the need for better management of public space and more responsible urban development.
The surveyed citizens show clear interest and concern about the state of pollution, waste management and protection of green areas, which further confirms that the quality of life at the local level does not depend solely on infrastructure, but also on the interconnectedness of responsible urban planning and sustainable management of natural and public resources.
The results obtained show similarities between municipalities, which in turn indicates identical systemic challenges in managing local problems and establishing effective dialogue between local government and citizens.
