Social media and civic activism: Unique opportunity to spread your message to the world!

The last years have been called the “era of social media”, i.e. “age of digitization”. There is no one who does not talk about it, and companies base their business models on social networks. Can these tools also be used in the civic / non-profit world?

Does every NGO need social media profiles to function normally, or could it harm your mission?

This mini-handbook provides insight into the field of social media management, as well as tips on how to maneuver it while getting the most out of it for your organization. What are the pros and cons of the different platforms and what can you use.

Social media for NGOs – Why, How and Who?

Social media offers you the chance to present your work to the whole outside world, as well as to get in touch with your supporters, like-minded people, your users, people interested in your work and activists from all over the world. Social media profiles do not have the same function as a website, because as the word suggests they are social. The whole point of social media is to use interactivity to engage the audience who will become part of your work. This is one of the main ways that social media profiles can have an added benefit for NGOs.

Download the Social Media Handbook.

This handbook is prepared within the project “Alliances for active citizenry”, supported by the European Union.
