There are still physical barriers, insufficient involvement in the creation of local policies, limited opportunities for employment, and the biggest problem is the loneliness and isolation of people with disabilities.
These are the main conclusions that emerged from the public forum “Inclusion of people with disabilities in the community”, which was held at EU House Kriva Palanka, organized by RCS Spektar.
People with disabilities, representatives of local self-government, public institutions, expert teams and educational assistants, as well as non-governmental organizations and civil activists took part. The general conclusions and key findings of the analysis were presented at the forum, which showed that persons with disabilities in the municipality of Kriva Palanka do not yet have sufficient conditions and opportunities to exercise their civil and political rights, nor do they have enough opportunities to actively participate in public and political life in the local community. Support from local authorities and institutions are reduced mainly to providing access ramps, and much less to their consultation, and involvement in the creation and implementation of local policies.

People with disabilities, their families, guardians, as well as the professional teams requested to provide personal assistants that they need mostly for communication, conversation, joint social games, acquiring new skills and socializing.
The event is part of the action “Inclusion of persons with disabilities in political and public life in the local community”, which is implemented within the project “Alliances for active citizenship” of the NGO Info-centre, with financial support from the European Union.
