The NGO Info-center, within the framework of its program for active citizenship, since the beginning of 2019, with the support of the Olof Palme International Center from Sweden, is dedicated to strengthening the capacities of local civil society organizations for citizens’ mobilization, advocacy and sustainable development.
Through the project “Active citizens and participatory democracy on local level”, a series of activities for cooperation and strengthening of public pressure on local authorities are implemented to encourage and practice the inclusion of citizens in the processes of creation and implementation of local policies, and in such a way to promote and advance participatory democracy.
The NGO Info-center continuously strengthens the capacities of fifteen local civil society organizations from fifteen municipalities (Kriva Palanka, Veles, Chaska, Tearce, Mavrovo and Rostuse, Strumica, Sveti Nikole, Kumanovo, Debar, Negotino, Kavadarci, Struga, Bitola, Shtip, Skopje, Gostivar, Demir Kapija). A more than 20 trainings have been organized for building the capacities of civil society organizations, over 70 public events and actions with the participation of citizens and local authorities were organazed as well.
At the same time, the NGO Info-center and local civil society organizations monitor the accountability of municipalities and their mechanisms for citizen involvement. In the past years, round twenty monitoring activities have been carried out.
An informal network of civil society organizations was created – Forum for Civil Dialogue (FCD), which before the local elections, but also after the formation of local authorities, organizes consultative meetings of citizens, local election candidates/local authorities to detect and implement local citizens’ priorities. FCD continuously monitors the realization of citizens’ priorities in six municipalities (Shtip, Kriva Palanka, Sveti Nikole, Struga, Demir Hisar, Krushevo). For the realization of the citizens’ priorities, memorandums have been signed with the municipalities: Shtip, Kriva Palanka, Struga, Demir Hisar and Krushevo.
