Media Development Center (MDC), within USAID’s program for media legal reform and responsible media, on Friday, November 7th, 2014  at Journalists’ Club, at 11:00 am, organizes the debate  “Defamation – snare for freedom of speech?”.

As debaters, MDC have invited: Ms. Nani Jansen, Legal Director of the Media Legal Defence Initiative (MLDI)  – London, Filip Medarski – lawyer, the executive editor of “Fokus” weekly Jadranka Kostova, the editor of “Sloboden pechat” daily and “Plusinfo” web-portal Branko Gerovski, the editor of “Libertas” web-portal Aco Kabranov, the journalist Sinisha Stanovic and the president of Macedonian Association of Journalists (MAJ), Nase Selmani.

The third report of Monitoring of defamation actions litigations, conducted by Media Development Center in the July- October 2014 period will be presented at the debate.

Nani Jansen is a barrister and lawyer and she actively works on protection and representation of journalists worldwide, in domestic and international courts. MLDI is an international initiative which supports journalists and protects their rights. The organization, in cooperation with Media Development Center, provides legal aid to journalists in the Republic of Macedonia, for few years now.
